COACHES

Mrs. Africa “Liz” Lancaster
Head Coach
As a Woodrow Wilson HS alumna Cheerleader, I am ecstatic to be in a place I love and coaching the sport I love. For over 20 years, I have coached all-star, recreation and school cheer, but it’s nothing like the overwhelming feeling of pride and honor to be coaching WHS Cheer.
My career as a mental health professional allows me to provide coaching support to the athletes on a deeper level. Supporting the athlete and addressing issues that affect the student athletes beyond practice and the sport allows the youth an opportunity to develop in areas outside of sports. AKEME Programs, a non-profit that I founded in 2004, Many non profit youth programs focus on a single mission - academic, sports, hunger, at risk, etc. AKEME Programs addresses the youth as an individual and their life as a whole. We focus on empowering youth to thrive in multiple aspects of their lives and help prepare them for the future.
As I work to develop the new WHS Cheer program I will continue these values by supporting the student athletes in life and coping skills that will allow them to transcend into college, adulthood, and professional careers with the hope that they will give back to Washington, DC communities and families.

Dionna McTaw
Coach
Dionna McTaw, affectionately called Coach D, is a native Washingtonian and product of DC Public Schools. She has over 25 years of experience training youth in the areas of cheer and dance. Coach D uses the principals and discipline learned in her formal dance training as the foundation for her coaching style. It is her desire to provide urban youth with an environment where they can develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and aspirations that will aide them in becoming successful adults. Coach D believes every student has the potential to be a Champion…desire, dedication, determination, concentration and the will to WIN.
