Derek Cambell

Head Coach

Coach Derek Campbell has been an Assistant Coach with the Lady Tigers for going on six years. He is the brains behind the uptempo-style offense. He began his coaching career in 1991 at HD Woodson High School as Head Boys Junior Varsity and Assistant on Boys Varsity until 1993. He leads the Junior Varsity team to two consecutive Championship titles. In 1994, he become Head Boys Junior Varsity Coach at Bishop McNamara his alma mater, and the following took over as Head Boys Varsity Coach. In his first season as Head Coach, he won the school’s first Conference Title and City Title, while receiving Coach of the Year honors in 1995. In 2010, he was named Head Girls Basketball Coach at Bishop Ireton compiling more than 70+ wins.

Coach Campbell graduated from Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland, and become the school’s All-Time Rebounder with 986 and 9th among its scoring leaders averaging 17 points. Coach Campbell received an athletic scholarship to Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. He was team captain and earned All MAAC honors. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He has been married to Vivian Young/Campbell for 24 years. Coach Campbell has four children: Derek Jr., Nia, Erin & Summer.
